I'll give you the legacy of this evil man in a nutshell.
Henry Kissinger talked then President Gerald Ford (March 1975) into sending Marines into a Cambodian island named Koh Tang to rescue a seized American cargo ship SS Mayaguez. But, the truth is, when the order was given to invade Koh Tang, the Mayaguez and its crew had already been released by the Cambodians.
But, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger went through with the orders to invade, because his words to President Gerald Ford were, "We lost Vietnam, this is our chance to make America look good to the world."
Look good? Was Kissinger kidding? Thirty eight men killed, fifty men wounded in the Mayaguez Operation on the Cambodian island of Koh Tang. Additionally, three captured Marines were executed by Khmer Rouge forces, and three U.S. helicopters shot down by Cambodian forces.
So, yeah Kissinger, this is what made America look better? If all this wasn't bad enough, in the coming years it was discovered that Secretary of State Kissinger was the one who ordered Marine commanders not to return to Koh Tang in order to save the three captured Marines from being executed.
I hope Kissinger had a painful death. For ordering the abandonment of my three fellow Marines leaving them to be executed by the enemy was unforgivable.
But, I have never thought any better of my Marine commanders in following that unlawful order by Henry Kissinger.
For this is solidly entrenched in Marine Corps mandates , "Never leave a Marine behind. For, every Marine is critical to the success and standing of a mission. Should a soldier be wounded, lost, or captured, every effort must be made to recover or rescue them. Even if it puts other members of the unit at risk."
Before I pass on from this Earth, I just want the opportunity to spit on Secretary of State Henry Kissinger's headstone.
